STATEMENT ON INTENT
The youth, who are the strongest, and most active members of any
country and society, are also the largest provider of a country?s
labour force. They also form the economic backbone of any economy.
Their health is, and should be a major concern to any government.
They also form the most sexually active group of the nation?s
population. The youthful exuberance and the urge to experiment,
sometimes without second thought desire of precaution, make them
susceptible to unforeseen consequences. With particular reference
to HIV/AIDS has which have become the bane of the world at present
and which seems to defy solution, it hooves on any society which
hopes to save its population and perpetuate itself to take a very
serious action to protect the health of its population especially
the youth.
It is therefore, the aim of Ericharlie to promote and maintain
the health of the youth especially against HIV/AIDS and other STDs,
through attitudinal change.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
ABIBIGROMAMA YOUTH FOUNDAION (AYF), came into begin, when the founders
realized, through their informal interaction with members of the
communities, that HIV/AIDS campaign and education seemed to be concentrated
mostly in the urban areas of the country. It is well known that
the majority of Ghanaians who are also the most vulnerable really
live in the rural areas, and fall in the rural area category. We
therefore undertook a research, with the help of the Elmina District
Hospital, to find out the level of HIV/AIDS cases in our District,
and to our surprise the result revealed were seropositvies.
In the year 2001 for instance, the number of patients tested for
HIV/AIDS in the District was 45 out of which 25{forming 55.6} were
seropositives.
In 2002, of the 64 patients tested, 19 {forming 29.7} were seropositvies
{source Elmina District Hospital}. The percentages from both 2001
and 2002 were far above the national average. These statistics made
us realize that our communities were among the highest affected
in the Central Region and Ghana and we deem it a responsibility
to act to turn the tables round in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem
District Hospital, when successful, it will lead to the area?s
economic development.
Our findings showed that it was in 1999 that the Elmina Hospital
undertook the HIV/AIDS campaign in the District. Causes and effect
of HIV/AID. A team of knowledgeable people from the John Hopkins
University Program, Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana AIDS
Commission will be the resource personnel.
